Micromanipulation

Complementary Techniques Assisted Reproduction

What are Micromanipulation Techniques?

Assisted Hatching

Assisted hatching involves creating a small hole with a laser in the zona pellucida (the layer surrounding the embryo). This facilitates the embryo's emergence (hatching), either for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) or before transfer to the mother's uterus.

Embryonic Makeup

Embryonic Makeup is one of the new Assisted Reproductive Technology techniques that allows the removal of cell fragments that hinder embryo development.

Human embryos contain membrane-bound fragments of cytoplasm between the embryo's cells. These originate during embryonic division and impede subsequent development. Embryonic Makeup involves creating a small opening in the zona pellucida and aspirating as many of these fragments as possible.

Embryonic Biopsy

Embryo biopsy is performed to conduct a genetic study of the embryo (Preimplantation Genetic Testing). It involves extracting one of its cells for analysis. This can be done either on the third day of development or between the fifth and sixth day, at the blastocyst stage. It is a highly precise technique that does not alter the embryo's development.

The sample obtained through biopsy is processed and subjected to genetic analysis using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
