Tandem IVF is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment that uses the patient's own eggs sequentially, with the option of quickly using donor eggs if a successful pregnancy has not occurred.
The patient's eggs are fertilized in the laboratory with sperm from her partner or a donor, and the highest-quality embryos are then selected for transfer to the uterus. If embryos are not available in this first stage, the same process is immediately performed using donor eggs.
This technique is designed to increase the chances of pregnancy in women with low ovarian reserve or those who have not achieved positive results in previous cycles using their own eggs.
