Assisted Reproduction Treatments
Embryo donation is an assisted reproductive technology that involves transferring embryos that were not used after an IVF cycle to a woman. These embryos, therefore, carry the genetic material of other people.
These embryos come from healthy couples under 35 years of age who, after treatment, no longer wish to have more children.
Furthermore, a large percentage of these embryos come from egg and/or sperm donation cycles and, therefore, have a high implantation potential. The Embryo Adoption program offers them a new lease on life.
Embryo donation is primarily indicated when both partners (or a single woman) are unable to conceive using their own eggs and/or sperm.
Among the various profiles, we find:
Success rates of embryo donation
It is very simple and painless. The uterus is prepared to receive the embryos using patches applied to the skin and vaginal tablets. In just a few days, the uterus is ready, and the embryos can be thawed and transferred. This process does not require hospital admission; the patient only needs to avoid strenuous physical activity in the following hours.
The pregnancy test, which will determine if the treatment has been successful, is performed 14 days later. If positive, the pregnancy process, from the third month onward, is the same as any other pregnancy, and all checkups can be carried out with the patient's regular gynecologist. The patient must continue the initial treatment for the first two months.
To minimize the risk of two people being siblings (i.e., two embryos created in the same IVF cycle) being randomly assigned to the same embryo, the allocation system ensures that embryos are transferred to different regions or countries.
The diversity is very broad, as demonstrated by the fact that the last 500 cycles involved women from more than 30 different countries.

The cost of embryo adoption or donation can vary depending on the clinic and country, but it is generally lower than a full IVF cycle. Costs typically include the embryo transfer and the necessary medical tests for the recipient, and can range from €2,500 to €5,000.
The recipient undergoes hormonal treatment to prepare her endometrium for embryo implantation. This treatment is monitored using ultrasound scans and blood tests to ensure the endometrium is in optimal condition to receive the embryo.
Before embryo adoption, the recipient must undergo a series of tests, including hormone analyses, gynecological exams, and tests to rule out infections. These tests ensure that the uterus is prepared to carry out a successful pregnancy.
The process of adopting or donating embryos is not painful. Embryo transfer is an outpatient procedure that does not require anesthesia and is usually quick and painless.
After the embryo transfer, it is recommended to avoid strenuous physical activity and follow your doctor's instructions. It is also important to remain calm and wait two weeks before taking a pregnancy test.
The risks associated with embryo adoption or donation are similar to those of any cryopreserved embryo transfer. These include the risk of multiple pregnancy, pregnancy complications, and the possibility of embryo failure.
