Micro-TESE

What is a Micro-TESE?

The micro-TESE is a procedure for recovery testicular spermatozoids that will be used in an IVF-ICSI cycle, in which microsurgery is used to identify which areas of the testicular tissue can contain spermatozoids.

When is it done?

This procedure is only recommended to patients who have no spermatozoids in the ejaculate due to a defect in sperm production (non obstructive azoospermia). In most cases, the sperm found will be used for the ICSI – microinjection, at the same time than the IVF, since the spermatozoids that are found are not always able to be frozen due to its small amount. If the number retrieved is considerable, they can be frozen and will be used for future IVF cycles.

What kind of anaesthesia is used?

It’s performed under local anaesthesia.
