Sperm quality alterations

In some cases, an abnormal chromosome dotation is detected in sperm (see semen genetic analysis), be it at the testicular level or in the ejaculation. Chromosome abnormalities detected on sperm indicate that there are some failures on any of the cellular procedures to perform chromosome segregation leading to chromosome malsegregation and aneuploidy on the fertilised oocyte (meiotic errors) or resulting embryo (mitotic errors).

In these cases it is necessary to study these embryos to be able to identify those that are chromosomally normal. This is carried out by an In Vitro Fertilisation cycle with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis.
