The first babies have been born after the analysis of all the chromosomes in an embryo using DGP

Six babies have already been born and 25 other women from Spain, Germany, Italy, UK, Australia, and Russia are expecting a child after coping with infertility for many years. This is due to a new, world-pioneer technique developed by Institut Marquès’ I+D team: the analysis of all the chromosomes in an embryo using DGP with FISH.

According to the Improved pregnancy rates in advanced maternal age study, a 40-year-old woman’s chance of becoming pregnant is doubled by this outstanding progress in DGP, since the conventional way only allowed the analysis of 9 chromosomes. As the Head of Laboratories at Institut Marquès, Dr. Esther Velilla, has explained, “for the first time in history, by using this new technique, the whole human karyotype can be analyzed before the embryo is transferred. It’s a newfound source of hope for many couples with years of infertility and failed pregnancies behind their backs.”
