This is the conclusion of a study made by Institut Marquès. This was just presented at the 35th National Congress of the Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO)

The transfer of a single embryo at blastocyst stage, which has been obtained in the best possible conditions of an IVF laboratory, decreases possible health risks related to multiple pregnancies. Moreover, the success rates of IVF treatments are not only maintained but also increased by doing so, according to Institut Marquès, present at the 35th Congress of the SEGO (Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics).

According to the clinic, the current techniques of embryo selection allow to increase the implantation and birth rates by transferring only one blastocyst. A good example is the culture of an embryo until its blastocyst stage (day 5 after fertilisation) or the Preimplantation Genetic Testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A).

One of the 10 best, according to the SEGO

The study is based on the retrospective data of the results of 1572 treatment cycles with embryo transfer. The abstract was chosen by the congress within the top 10 studies of 2019.

The results show that it is really beneficial to transfer only one embryo in order to increase the outcome. This way a multiple pregnancy and its risks are avoided. In addition it was shown that the birth rates and the child’s health are the same after a fresh or a frozen embryo transfer. This detail increases the efficiency of the treatment cycles.

The best results transferring a single embryo

In 90% of the treatments at Institut Marquès, a single blastocyst is transferred in order to avoid multiple pregnancies and health risks. In comparison to the data provided by the Spanish Society of Fertility (SEF), it is proved that the single embryo transfers carried out at the clinic are the reason for our high success rates.
